One system to rule them all: Designing for 50+ brands

Brunswick’s design system had expanded to over 1,000 components, making it difficult to manage, scale, and optimize for the diverse needs of its numerous brands. The sheer size and complexity of the system led to inefficiencies, inconsistencies, and challenges in maintaining a seamless design and development workflow. With 57 brands under the Brunswick umbrella, each with unique requirements, the existing system struggled to provide a unified yet flexible framework that could adapt to various use cases while remaining performant and easy to use.

To address these challenges, a new design system was developed with a focus on manageability, performance, and scalability. The goal was to create a system that was comprehensive yet streamlined, allowing design teams, engineers, and marketers to efficiently build and maintain digital experiences across all Brunswick brands. This new system was designed to be agnostic, meaning it could accommodate different branding and functional needs while ensuring consistency and efficiency in design and development. By reducing redundancy and improving component reusability, the new approach enabled teams to work faster, maintain brand integrity, and create seamless user experiences across Brunswick’s extensive portfolio.

Reinventing Forrester's portfolio as a digital service

Forrester’s research platform was struggling with low engagement, prompting the need for a complete reinvention rather than just a redesign. To understand expectations and define a compelling vision, the team conducted interviews with over a dozen stakeholders. The goal was to create a digital experience that was not only visually appealing but also essential to users’ daily workflows. The new platform needed to be sticky, intuitive, and personalized, ensuring that content was relevant at an individual level and easy for business leaders to navigate.

To achieve this, we developed Tempo, a digital design system that enabled Forrester to quickly build accessible and high-performing experiences. This system provided a foundation for ongoing innovation, allowing Forrester to scale beyond this project. Additionally, with a vast library of research articles, the team introduced a templated branding system that maintained consistency while minimizing production effort. The result was a streamlined, engaging, and scalable platform that aligned with Forrester’s vision for the future. George Colony, Forrester’s CEO, praised the final product as clean, simple, fast, and highly relevant.

Navigating the Digital-First Frontier in Financial Services.

Manulife embarked on a digital transformation to unify and enhance its digital properties across Manulife and John Hancock’s Global Wealth & Asset Management businesses. This initiative involved developing a comprehensive design system with over 80 reusable components, designed to support multiple websites while maintaining branding consistency. The system was built to accommodate both Manulife and John Hancock’s unique visual identities, ensuring a seamless user experience across platforms.

Beyond design, a global governance and change management program was implemented to oversee adoption and maintain consistency across business units. This approach not only streamlined digital experiences but also positioned Manulife as a leader in digital-first financial services. By applying this system across the enterprise, the company reinforced its commitment to innovation, efficiency, and a cohesive digital presence.
